Newness!

Monday, January 25th, 2010

At the risk of stating the obvious, I’ve redesigned my website!  In between working very hard on my revisions for FULLY INVOLVED, I’m still working out the kinks on the site.  I hope you’ll take some time to look around the different pages and if you find anything that looks odd or doesn’t work right, please contact me or post here.  I’m still fiddling with this page and all those links on the left side will change.  Soon.  (That’s a husband task.)

Oh, and be sure to look at the home page because that’s got the main design.  This is just an “inside” less cluttered design…which might change eventually.

So…back to revisions, since my “hard-hearted” editor didn’t buy the cat on the keyboard excuse.  Hope everyone had a happy weekend…

Dear Editor

Dear Editor,

I’m sorry I am unable to do my revisions as you requested.  As always, I think you had some great ideas that would definitely make my story stronger.  However, my keyboard has been taken over and there’s nothing I can do about it.  I’m thinking since you love cats you will be very understanding.  Sorry!

Thanks much,

Amy

Five Ways Not To Start Your Day

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

* With so much clean, unfolded laundry staring at you that you can barely walk across the bedroom and definitely can’t get to the closet.

* With revisions (or any dreaded project) hanging over you, bringing you down, sucking the life out of you drop by drop (good news: my imagination still works!)

* With freezing rain in the forecast

* With a critter, rodentia-sized, living in your garage.  (I’ve seen it.  Not a mouse or rat.  More…vole-like, though I’m not even sure I know what a vole is.)

* With a phone call from your child’s teacher wanting to set up a conference because your child is “struggling”

Welcome to my Thursday so far.

Got anything to add?

A-revising we will go

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I got revision notes on FULLY INVOLVED, aka the 3rd Texas Firefighters book, last week.  Some numbers:

Days spent mulling changes, fighting self-doubt, gearing up:  4

Scenes that only need minor editing:  13 (out of 61)

Days I have until deadline:  18

Pages done so far:  19

Total pages:  284

Mom, I’m still alive.

To anyone who’s tried to call or email and hasn’t gotten an answer, I’ll be with you soon.  Assuming I’m still alive then.

The blog will be back to random half-thoughts and bullet points, I suspect.

Wish my family luck and patience, please.  (The husband was not amused tonight when, prior to getting his feedback to my new chapter one, I said:  I may be on the edge but please don’t be nice about it.)

That is all.

Today’s post…

Happy Weekend!

Sleep rocks

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Ahhh, the sun is shining, breakfast was good and…OMG I got 8 hours of sleep last night!!!

Yes, this is groundbreaking.  I can’t remember the last weeknight I was able to sleep for 8 full hours.  When school’s out and I can sleep in, no problem.  But normally?  Big problem.

My mom has been saying to me daily for the past, oh, fifteen years or so, (and…okay, fifteen years before that as well) “Go to bed early!”  Understandable, since she knows I usually don’t go to sleep before 1 or 2am.  Lately friends have nagged me, “You have to go to bed earlier!” whenever I mention I’m so tired my eyes won’t stay open…at noon.  And my response to everyone has always been, “I can’t SLEEP any earlier.  I can either go to bed at 10 and lay there for hours, or I can work for hours and then go to bed and (eventually) sleep.”

After all this time, I went to a sleep specialist yesterday and was told I have a circadian rhythm disorder.  Just like that everything made sense.  My body isn’t ready to go to sleep until 2 or 3am, and yet I have to get up at 7 to get the kids ready for school.  I’m always exhausted.  Duh.

The solution is my new best friend:  melatonin.  One little pill.

OMG I got 8 hours of sleep last night.  (Pick yourself up off the floor, Mom!)

Any other nightowls out there who repeatedly wonder why your hours are so different from society’s?  One.  Little.  Pill. :)

Title News, etc

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I finally have official titles for my upcoming Texas Firefighters trilogy:

Book One:  PLAYING WITH FIRE, July 2010

Book Two:  A LITTLE CONSEQUENCE, August 2010

Book Three:  FULLY INVOLVED, September 2010

YAY!  I love the two fire-related ones and the middle one, in case you couldn’t tell, is a pregnancy story so the title fits well.

In case anyone has searched my site for any kind of information about these upcoming books, you probably discovered…nothing.  I’m working on a brand new website and hope to finish it in the next week.  That said, I still don’t have back cover blurbs for my stories.  I’ll post them when I get them and will get excerpts up soon as well.

I’m off to discipline very naughty kittens….

My reputation precedes me

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

Background info:  8yo son has basketball at 10am on Saturdays.  To me (and my husband) 10am on the weekend is butt early to go anywhere.

Last night, 8yo told my husband:  Daddy, I want YOU to take me to basketball tomorrow!

(This is not unusual.  He is a daddy’s boy and always wants Daddy to do everything with him.)

Before bed, the 8yo offered more information:  You know why I want you to take me to basketball, Daddy?  So Mom doesn’t throw a hissy fit because she’s tired!

Heh.  The husband dragged his rear out of bed and took the kid to basketball.  Though I was awake, I snuggled into the warm bed and read. :)

Sometimes it pays to be….emotional.  *g*

Kittens for sale

Friday, January 8th, 2010

I have more holes in my skin than I can count, thanks to happy little claws!  Anyone need a warm fuzzy beast or two?  (Ha.  As wild and crazy as the kittens are, I’m afraid we’re attached, so my plea is in vain.)

sackedoutThis picture is horribly out of focus but maybe it gives you an idea of how active they are…it takes a lot for a kitten to pass out like this!  (And for anyone who’s keeping track, the yellow one on the right, formerly Poseidon?  Has been renamed to Fudge.  Trust me, it fits.)

My main post is over at Writeminded today so I hope you’ll stop by there and say hi.

Have a good weekend and stay warm!

One thing I love about Wisconsin…

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

is that they don’t cancel school over a couple inches of snow.  :)

snow2I suppose it’s pretty…if you like white.  I’ve always needed a lot more color in my life.  Like teal water.  Beige sand.  Green sea grass.  Bright blue sky…

So…dinner is in the crockpot.  I’ve done my treadmill time.  The house is quiet (except for periodic kitten escapades).  All that’s left to do is…WORK!  (And laundry.  Damn details.)

Maybe for excitement I’ll turn on my fire department scanner and listen to all the chaos caused by the weather.  I lead an exciting life! *g*  (For the record, the red building in the background of the photo is the fire station…the pic was taken from our back deck.)

What’s everyone else doing today?  Got snow?  If not, can I come visit?
